Our Pope St. Celestine V poster portrays the last Pope to ever resign prior to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Born Pietro Angelerio, he showed great intelligence and love for others; and as a young man, he followed the strict practices of St. John the Baptist and took severe penances upon himself. He established a branch of the Benedictine monks called the Celestines, and after being raised to Superior-General, he retired. He was then forced into the Papacy where he quickly realized his incompetence and subsequently resigned. Pope St. Celestine V, pray for us that we may live peaceful lives in accordance to God's will!
